(HOSP)- CLINICAL PHARMACYREPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF
PHARMACYDEPARTMENT: CLINICAL PHARMACYPosition SummaryUnder
supervision provides assistance to management executives in
operation of a pharmacy department and assists in supervision of a
group of services. Performs administrative and managerial functions
related to the operation of patient services. Implements and
coordinates new programs and projects and monitors their operations
and effectiveness.Organizational Responsibilities
- Provides assistance to senior pharmacy management in a wide
range of activities in the management of a correctional facility
such areas as hospital administration, total
- management and administrative systems, professional, medical,
technical, operational and
- related support activity services.
- Collects and analyzes data needed as a basis for administrative
and management decisions
- relative to various hospital activities
- Investigates and reports on patient complaints and performs
special studies and performs special studies and investigations on
operational units.
- Plans, directs, supervises, coordinates, controls, and reviews
work of subordinate administrative personnel relating to assigned
tasks and projects within the pharmacy department. Makes
recommendations for promotion, discipline, termination, corrective
training, or other personnel action.
- Attends staff meetings, inter-departmental conferences and
represents the Director, as well as the departmental administrators
at inter-departmental functions and programs
- Assists in the planning, development, evaluation and problem
solving of data collection and analysis.
- Prepares check requests and purchase orders for the department.
Maintains internal department tracking system to assure receipt.
Prepares form for monitoring usage of pharmacy management CE
time.
- Manages the implementation of PYXIS Med station to ensure the
appropriate utilization of automation and information
technology.
- Manages the integration and maintenance of automation and
technology to assure safe and appropriate use of medications.
- Manages the processes that identifies and resolves problems
related to pharmacy automation and technology.
- Supervise the activities of the PYXIS equipment, and personnel
assuring compliance with protocols.
- Arranges for the repair of equipment throughout the department
through written and telephone contact with Materials Management.
Arranges for repairs of fixed property through the Department of
Corrections.
- Manages completed controlled substances requisitions separated
by building and type (regular controlled and methadone).
- Oversees that adequate inventory levels of supplies are
maintained in the pharmacy office. When requested monitors specific
supplies or medications in satellite pharmacies.
- Coordinates pharmacist and pharmacy technician schedule on a
biweekly basis for review of pharmacy director and/or assistant
director.
- Ensures preparation of correspondence using information
provided.
- Prepares minutes of meetings when requested.
- Arranges various departmental meetings including staff,
medication error and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics meeting.
Notifies participants by email and phone.
- Schedule interviews and arranges clearances with DOC for
outside visitors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assumes system-wide (Rikers and borough houses) responsibility
for all pharmacy operations for the week when on-call during
evenings, weekends and holidays.Interpersonal Skills

employees, vendors, Department of Corrections personnel.

Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree required. Master's Degree preferred.
- Computer experience in a Windows environment including
Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel.
- Demonstrated administrative skills (decision-making/problem
solving abilities, priority setting, good communication skills and
interpersonal skills).
- Experience in Kronos environment preferred.Working
ConditionsOffice area located in a jail setting but may be required
to go to various facilities to obtain information. Frequent walking
(sometimes long distances), sitting, standing, reaching and
bending. Travel between all facilities on Rikers Island is
required. Temperature control and ventilation is highly variable
throughout the jail campus.Physical RequirementsPrincipally
classified as medium duty work with frequent travel/walking between
facilities. May be required to help push and/or pull carts weighing
up to 300 lbs. down long hallways and lift up to 35 pounds on
occasion.Minimum Qualifications
- A valid New York State license and current registration to
practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State;
and
- Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and
current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the
American Heart Association (AHA).Special NoteFor assignments in
Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria
may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing
education program registered by the New York State Education
Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered
Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN.
These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the
immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently
registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation
pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must
apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited
permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the
immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently
registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for
up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit.
In addition, must hold or obtain through facility orientation, a
valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through
